About Margaret Walker Alexander Library

The Margaret Walker Alexander Library, conveniently located on Robinson Street, is named for Mississippi author, Margaret Walker Alexander, author of the novel Jubilee and poetry book For My People, among other books. The library houses the Margaret Walker African American Literature Center which contains a wide variety of literature and books about the African American cultural experience. The library features a rain forest-themed area for children and several exhibit cases about the life and work of Margaret Walker Alexander.

January 23, 2018 | Events for School Aged Children

Patron ages 6-18 are invited to our game night. We will play different games and each patron is encouraged to bring their own. However, we will provide several games. This fun event is held every 4th Tuesday of each month. So, come join us!

Let's read, The Mystery in the Snow, by Warner Gertrude Chandler. For a fun craft, we will Create a Winter Collage using old magazines and scrap paper and will Sing along and Dance along after story time. Preschoolers welcome. 10:00 AM

January 29, 2018 | Events for All Ages

In honor of National Puzzle Day, puzzles of all sorts will be out for your enjoyment. There will be crossword puzzles, word search puzzles, and also puzzle pieces. This event is open to all ages. Bring Family and Friends and come have some fun with us at the Alexander Library. 3:30 PM
