About Margaret Walker Alexander Library

The Margaret Walker Alexander Library, conveniently located on Robinson Street, is named for Mississippi author Margaret Walker Alexander, author of the novel Jubilee and poetry book For My People, among other books. The library houses the Margaret Walker African American Literature Center, which contains a wide variety of literature and books about the African American cultural experience. The library features a rain forest-themed area for children and several exhibit cases about the life and work of Margaret Walker Alexander.

At the end of each month, the participant who has read the most books will join the Book Club Hall of Fame and a special prize will be awarded. Alexander Library is hosting an ADULT COLORING CONTEST! That is right, an ADULT coloring contest for those who still love to color. All contestants must be 18 or older to participate. One entry per person, and the deadline is Saturday, November 23. Copies of the page can be picked up at the library. Our judges will judge submissions on Monday, November 25, and prizes will be awarded for first and second place at 4:00 PM! A little boy loses his blanket and is criticized horribly for wanting to keep his blanket; however, in a twist of events, he goes on to reclaim his prized possession for a moment before a crafty dog steals it away.
