We provide public library service to urban metropolitan Jackson and Hinds County Mississippi, the state capital. Our goal is to provide quality service through our 15 locations.

Board meetings are usually held at 4:00 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month, excluding June and December. Meetings are usually held in the Ellen Douglas Room, Eudora Welty Library. Meetings open to public.

6) Fiddling with the Violin

Summer Reading Event: Children will listen to beautiful melodies played on the violin by Mr. Sam Saprong. Summer Reading Event: Adults and Senior adults will design musical instruments out of discarded items and use them in presenting songs of interest. They will make a Drum from soup cans, oatmeal containers or coffee cans, balloons and rubber bands. Drumsticks will be made from sticks wrapped in cloth and taped with masking tape. They will also make a Tambourine from flip tops off soft drink cans or plastic bottle caps, coat hanger wire and a tool to poke holes in bottle caps.

Summer Reading Event: Mississippi Djembe is a musical ensemble open to all, working to bring Old School Roots Djembe to Mississippi by connecting the djembe family and traditional songs, dance, and folklore to the heartbeat of Mississippi. Mr. Noels will present an awesome djembe drum program as he shares his wealth of knowledge accumulated over 40 years of drumming, dancing, singing, and teaching. The children will get to experiment playing the djembe drum while others dance to the beat.

Library Locations | Welcome to the Beverly J. Brown Library, which is conveniently located on Siwell Road in Byram. Our regular Toddler Story Hour is Wednesday at 10:30 AM. Our library offers the Summer Reading Program for children and teens in June each year, and other programs for those of all ages throughout the calendar year. Our Friends of the Library group meets quarterly throughout the year. Please call the library for more information.

210) Medgar Evers Library

Library Locations | The Medgar Evers Library, which was named for the Civil Rights activist, Medgar Evers, is located in Northwest Jackson. The library celebrates the Medgar Evers Homecoming each June, and a historic statue of Evers is located on library grounds. The library also hosts the Annual Juneteenth Celebration.
We have Summer Reading Programs, The Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest, The Annual Health Fair, Storytime Wednesdays and Fantastic Friday Storytimes at 10:00 AM, Teen Programs and Showtime Movie Matinees every Saturday at 11 AM. Friends of the Library | Jackson Friends of the Library (JFOL) is an organization that exists to support the eight (8) City of Jackson libraries in the Jackson Hinds Library System. We hold book sales, help with the summer reading programs, and hosting the ever popular APPLAUSE! series are examples of some of our activities.
