• About Library System

We provide public library service to urban metropolitan Jackson and Hinds County Mississippi, the state capital. Our goal is to provide quality service through our 15 locations.

• Executive Director & Team

The executive director is chief administrative officer over all fifteen Jackson Hinds Library System locations. Learn more here about our executive director and talented library team that operate it.

• Board of Trustees

Board meetings are usually held at 4:00 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month, excluding June and December. Meetings are usually held in the Ellen Douglas Room, Eudora Welty Library. Meetings open to public.

1) Storytime Wednesday

Calendar | Did you know the first day of Autumn is September 23, 2018? Join us for storytime as we read about all the wonders that Autumn brings. We will read, Let It Fall, by MaryAnn Leffler. This book shows illustrations and rhyming text that celebrates autumn, with its falling leaves, crisp mornings and gusty breezes. We will also color a tree and place falling leaves on the branches for a fun craft. So, come join us at 10:30 AM. Preschoolers are welcome to attend.

2) Storytime Wednesday

Calendar | This will be a fun storytime hour about Pete the Cat! We will read, Pete the Cat and his Groovy Buttons, by Eric Litwin, and Big Rain Coming, by Katrina Germain. For a fun craft, Pete the Cat comes alive with his colorful groovy buttons. Storytime fun starts at 10:30 AM and preschoolers are welcome to attend.

3) Storytime Wednesday

Calendar | Let's celebrate Good Neighbor Day and learn what it takes to be a Good Neighbor! We will read, Those Darn Squirrels and the Cat Next Door, by Adam Rubin. This is a fun book that tells how squirrels, all winter long, annoyed grumpy old man Fookwire with their tactics. But now that it's spring and his beloved birds are back, nothing can spoil his good mood! For a fun craft, we will color a Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood coloring page! So, come join us for storytime at the Byram Library! 10:30 AM. Preschoolers are welcome to attend.

4) Storytime Wednesday

Calendar | Come join as we read, Eli, No, by Kate Kirk and Little Rabbit and the Meanest other on Earth, by Kate Klise. We will also have fun activities and circle games related to inclusion and how to play together. Preschoolers are welcome to attend. Join us at 10:30 AM.

5) Baby Storytime

Calendar | This program is geared for babies, toddlers, and their caregivers. There will be body rhymes, board books, fingerplays, songs, and lots more! Fun starts at 10:00 AM! Come join us!

6) Medgar Evers Library

Library Locations | The Medgar Evers Library, which was named for the Civil Rights activist, Medgar Evers, is located in Northwest Jackson. The library celebrates the Medgar Evers Homecoming each June, and a historic statue of Evers is located on library grounds. The library also hosts the Annual Juneteenth Celebration.
We have Summer Reading Programs, The Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest, The Annual Health Fair, Storytime Wednesdays and Fantastic Friday Storytimes at 10:00 AM, Teen Programs and Showtime Movie Matinees every Saturday at 11 AM.
