• About Library System

We provide public library service to urban metropolitan Jackson and Hinds County Mississippi, the state capital. Our goal is to provide quality service through our 15 locations.

• Executive Director & Team

The executive director is chief administrative officer over all fifteen Jackson Hinds Library System locations. Learn more here about our executive director and talented library team that operate it.

• Board of Trustees

Board meetings are usually held at 4:00 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month, excluding June and December. Meetings are usually held in the Ellen Douglas Room, Eudora Welty Library. Meetings open to public.

1) Story TIme

Calendar | Every Wednesday morning at 9:30 the Bolden Moore Library offers a storytime program for all
children interested in attending. Storytime includes multiple books that are read aloud and well as fun arts and crafts. For more information please contact the Bolden Moore Library at 601-922-6076.

3) Story Time Wednesday

Calendar | Come to the Ella Bess Austin Library on March 6th for our Wednesday Storytime. Theme: Walk in Her Shoes: Sacagawea. We'll read "A Picture Book of Sacagawea" by David A. Adler. Craft: Let's discover America as seen by Sacagawea as we make a miniature version of the canoe she used to travel across America with Lewis and Clark.

4) Storytime Wednesday

Calendar | Come to the Ella Bess Austin Library on March 13th at 10:30 AM for our Wednesday Storytime. Theme: St. Patrick's Day.
We'll read "A Fine St. Patrick's Day" by Susan Wojciechowski and "Jeremy Bean's St. Patrick Day" by Alice Schertle. Craft. How well do you know your colors? Explore the world of colors through creating this picture art of Lucky the Leprechaun and his Colorful Rainbow Pot of Gold!

5) School Aged Storytime Wednesday

Calendar | Come to the Ella Bess Austin Library on March 20th at 10:30 AM for a School Aged Storytime. Theme: Walk in Her Shoes: Harriet Tubman. We'll read "Harriet Tubman" by Polly Carter. Craft: How did she feel to see her name on a "Most Wanted" Poster as she risked her life to go back and free slaves. Experience what Harriet might have felt as you make a most wanted poster with you as the most wanted outlaw.

6) School Aged Storytime Wednesday

Calendar | Come to the Ella Bess Austin Library on March 27th at 10:30 AM for a school aged storytime. Theme: Pirates We'll read "Pirate Mom" by Deborah Underwood and "on the Go with Pirate Pete" by A.E. Cannon. Craft: Ahoy, Shipmate! Discover the world of sunken treasure with this bejeweled pirate's sunken treasure water bottle craft.

7) Medgar Evers Library

Library Locations | The Medgar Evers Library, which was named for the Civil Rights activist, Medgar Evers, is located in Northwest Jackson. The library celebrates the Medgar Evers Homecoming each June, and a historic statue of Evers is located on library grounds. The library also hosts the Annual Juneteenth Celebration.
We have Summer Reading Programs, The Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest, The Annual Health Fair, Storytime Wednesdays and Fantastic Friday Storytimes at 10:00 AM, Teen Programs and Showtime Movie Matinees every Saturday at 11 AM.
