About
Our Children's Collection
The library has thousands of wonderful
books that can take children all over
the world. All they need is a library
card.
It has been
statistically proven that children
who begin reading at an early age
have a higher personal success rate.
Exposing children to printed words
and their meaning will prepare them
for school, ensure their success
as a student and instill a lifelong
love of books and learning.
The juvenile
area of the library contains thousands
of books for parents to read to
children from birth; picture books
and easy readers for preschool and
elementary school students. The reference
and nonfiction collection contains
up-to-date volumes for homework and
research projects. The collection
also includes the “classic” literature
by writers such as Shakespeare, Chaucer,
Hemingway and many others. The juvenile
fiction and young adult books are a
collection of old favorites and recent
publications by children’s
book writers. The Coretta Scott
King Award books are available
and all Newberry and Caldecott
Medal winners are a part of the
collection.
Reading
List Books
The library maintains a well-stocked
collection of reading list books for
the Jackson Public School District based
on the partnership between the library
system and the school district. These
books are checked out as Reserve, Non-Renewable
for two weeks to allow them to circulate
to more students. Books on other reading
lists are available as a normal part
of the collection. For information about
reading list books, call 601-968-5800
or 968-5820.
