• ( Q ) How many books and other materials can I check out at one time?

( A ) All borrowers may check out as many materials as they would like to have up to a total of 25 items. Those borrowing DVDs are allowed to have 5 DVD checked out at one time. In order to allow everyone to find items they need available on our shelves, we limit the number of books about the same subject to four books at a time.

• ( Q ) Can I renew my materials without coming in to the library?

( A ) Yes, it is easy to renew your currently checked-out items on the internet using the library system's on-line catalog system. Simply log onto the system using your patron barcode and PIN and the system will allow you to renew most items. If a book, CD or DVD has been requested by another patron, it cannot be renewed. You can also renew your items by calling any of our library branch locations or using our automated phone line.

• ( Q ) How old does my child have to be to get their own card?

( A ) We encourage all families to celebrate your child's sixth birthday by applying for a child's library card. Your child must be at least six years old, and have a parent's signature and address identification when they apply for a card. By signing, the parent or guardian assumes all liability for lost or damaged materials checked out to the child.

• ( Q ) Can my teen get their own library card?

( A ) Yes, we encourage parents to register their teen, aged 12 and up, for a free library card. Parents must be willing to assume liability for any lost, damaged or overdue items and show proof that they live in Hinds County. Teen cards are available for children aged 12 to 17.

• ( Q ) Can I get a card even if I do not live in Hinds County?

( A ) Yes, you can! You can receive a library card and borrowing privileges for $25.00 for an individual or $50.00 for all family members living in the same household. Hinds County property owners can receive a free card no matter where your primary residence is located.
