• About Library System

We provide public library service to urban metropolitan Jackson and Hinds County Mississippi, the state capital. Our goal is to provide quality service through our 15 locations.

• Executive Director & Team

• Board of Trustees

Board meetings are usually held at 4:00 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month, excluding June and December. Meetings are usually held in the Ellen Douglas Room, Eudora Welty Library. Meetings open to public.

• Branch Librarian

A Branch Librarian directly supervises all branch operations and manages library programs by performing the following duties: planning and implementing programs for adults, young adults and children; preparing work schedules; providing reference and information services; planning, preparing, presenting story times, summer reading activities, and special programs for youth; assisting library users in making effective use of library resources; performing other duties as necessary. Must have the ability to work a flexible work schedule within the library's hours of operation (evenings and Saturdays as needed).

A Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS) degree from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association is required--two to three years of related experience with supervisory responsibility and public library experience are preferred; knowledge of library computer software is required.

• Maintenance Technician

Under the direction of the Facilitates Supervisor, performs general building and lawn maintenance throughout Jackson-Hinds Library System; participates in the installation, maintenance, and repair of buildings/facilities including lawns and landscaping of all 15 branches, Library System vehicles and fixtures; and provide custodial services on a limited basis; required to keep records of time spent, supplies used and completed work tasks. Must serve as backup in absence of Courier.

Requires the ability to bend, climb, kneel, lift, stand or stoop for extended periods to handle materials and equipment in excess of 50 or up to 100 pounds.Required to be on call nights and weekends. Perform other duties as assigned by Facilities Supervisor.

Must be present for a 40 hour work week, hold and maintain a valid driver's license, be insurable, and have good driving record.
