We provide public library service to urban metropolitan Jackson and Hinds County Mississippi, the state capital. Our goal is to provide quality service through our 15 locations.

• Executive Director & Team

• Board of Trustees

Board meetings are usually held at 4:00 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month, excluding June and December. Meetings are usually held in the Ellen Douglas Room, Eudora Welty Library. Meetings open to public.

• Circulation Assisitant

Under the general supervision of the Branch Manager, assists patrons and performs procedures related to the circulation of materials. Must exhibit professionalism and display exceptional customer service to patrons at service desk and over the phone. Essential duties include answering inquires pertaining to bibliographic materials or computer data systems, collecting fees and fines, discharge of library materials, registering library users, renewing items, reserving library materials, and/or routing patrons plus other telephone calls to appropriate destinations and shelving.

Occasionally required to bend, crawl, crouch, knee, sit, stand, and stop for extended period of time. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10-50 pounds. Performs other duties as assigned by Branch Manager.

A high school diploma or GED is required. Some college and previous library experience preferred.

Must be available and present to work at any branch within the Jackson-Hinds Library System full-time, 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday including evenings and Saturday as scheduled during the library's hours of operation.

• Information Resource Center Assistant

Under the general supervision of the Reference Manager, helps assist library patrons in making effective use of library computers; perform troubleshooting and displays strong skill set in use of electronic sourcing from usage of the Internet and other databases. Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing; maintain relative knowledge to answer questions pertaining to library use and procedures.

Occasionally requires to bend, crawl, crouch, kneel, sit, stand, and stoop for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or over up to 10-50 pounds. Performs other duties as assigned by Reference Manager.

A high school diploma or GED is required. Some college and previous library experience is preferred.

Must be available to work 40 hours per week as scheduled within the library's operation--Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM-6:00 PM; Friday and Saturday, 9:00-AM-5:00 PM.

• Information Technology Technician

An Information Technology Technician installs, maintains, analyzes, troubleshoots and repairs computer systems, hardware and computer peripherals across the entire system. Other duties include: supporting end users to resolve software, hardware and network connectivity issues while demonstrating proficient time management skills.

An Associate of Arts degree in Information Technology or a related field is required, or a high school diploma with at least six months of experience and/or technical training.

A+ Certification is preferred, along with any other Information Technology related certification(s).

• Professional Assistant

Position requires comparable work experience and computer skills; ability to effectively work with library patrons and staff; basic knowledge of library use and procedures are preferred. Work requires standing, stooping, and bending for extended periods of time and the ability to lift up to 10-50 pounds on an occasional basis.

Under the general supervision of the Branch Librarian, assist patrons and performs routine circulation and informational services. Must exhibit professionalism and display exceptional customer service to patrons at service desk and over the phone. Essential duties include answering inquires pertaining to bibliographic materials or computer data systems, charging or discharge of library materials in and out, collecting fees and fines, data inputting; registering library users, renewing items, reserving library materials, and/or routing patrons plus other telephone calls to appropriate destinations and shelving.

Minimum of four year degree, Bachelors in Library Science and Information Science or related field.

Must be available and present to work at any branch with in Jackson-Hinds Library System full-time, 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday including evenings and Saturday as scheduled within the library's hours of operation.

• Shelver (Part-Time)

JHLS has an immediate opening for a Shelver. The position is part-time (up to 17 hours per week).

Under the supervision of the Branch Manager or Branch Librarian, a Shelver shelves library materials; assists patrons with simple directional questions; performs other duties as necessary.
