We provide public library service to urban metropolitan Jackson and Hinds County Mississippi, the state capital. Our goal is to provide quality service through our 15 locations.

• Executive Director & Team

The executive director is chief administrative officer over all fifteen Jackson Hinds Library System locations. Learn more here about our executive director and talented library team that operate it.

• Board of Trustees

Board meetings are usually held at 4:00 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month, excluding June and December. Meetings are usually held in the Ellen Douglas Room, Eudora Welty Library. Meetings open to public.

• Circulation Assistant

Under the general supervision of the Branch Manager, assists patrons and performs procedures related to the circulation of materials. Must exhibit professionalism and display exceptional customer service to patrons at service desk and over the phone. Essential duties include answering inquires pertaining to bibliographic materials or computer data systems, collecting fees and fines, discharge of library materials, registering library users, renewing items, reserving library materials, and/or routing patrons plus others telephone calls to appropriate destinations and shelving.

Occasionally requires to bend, crawl, crouch, kneel, sit, stand, and stoop for extended period of time. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10-50 pounds. Performs other duties as assigned by Branch Manager.

A high school diploma or GED is required. Some college and previous library experience is preferred.

Must be available and present to work at any branch within the Jackson-Hinds Library System full-time, 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday including evenings and Saturday as scheduled during the library's hours of operation.

• Information Resource Center Assistant

Under the general supervision of the Reference Manager, helps assist library patrons in making effective use of library computers; perform troubleshooting and displays strong skill set in the use of electronic sourcing from usage of the Internet and other databases. Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing; maintain relative knowledge to answer questions pertaining to library use and procedures.

Occasionally requires to bend, crawl, crouch, kneel, sit, stand, and stoop for extended period of time. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10-50 pounds. Performs other duties as assigned by Reference Manager.

A high school diploma or GED is required. Some college and previous library experience is preferred.

Must be available to work 40 hours per week as scheduled within the library's operation-Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM -6:00 PM; Friday and Saturday, 9:00 AM -5:00 PM.

• Reference Librarian

Assists patrons with searches on the online catalog and library databases. Searches files, reference shelves, and online resources to locate requested information. Answers queries on complicated reference subjects, including helping students with assignments and assisting patrons with searches of our microfilm resources. Assist patrons with locating print resources in the various library stack areas. Helps re-shelve, organize, and maintain reference materials.

A Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university is required; at least 1-2 years of experience in library reference work; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Must be available to work 40 hours per week as scheduled within the library's hours of operation (Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM; Friday and Saturday 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM).

• Shelver (Part-Time)
