About Medgar Evers Library

The Medgar Evers Library, which was named for the Civil Rights activist, Medgar Evers, is located in Northwest Jackson. The library celebrates the Medgar Evers Homecoming each June, and a historic statue of Evers is located on library grounds. The library also hosts the Annual Juneteenth Celebration.
We have Summer Reading Programs, The Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest, The Annual Health Fair, Storytime Wednesdays and Fantastic Friday Storytimes at 10:00 AM, Teen Programs and Showtime Movie Matinees every Saturday at 11 AM. This STEM education program, aligns the skills and knowledge needed to bridge the gap between secondary education and college/career success. Students develop critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving skills while utilizing real-world applications. In addition, teens are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Teens meet every Saturday at 10:00 AM at the Medgar Evers Library. Join today!

Do you have homework assignments or a project due? The purpose of the Homework Club program is to provide K-8th grade students with a resource for completing daily school assignments and special projects during the academic year. Frosty is Here! Let's have a Frosty good time and read, Frosty The Snowman, by Jack Rollins. After the reading, let's make our very own snowman and snowflakes! Frosty fun starts at 10:00 AM!

Filled with laughter, fun and heartwarming holiday moments, Christmas movies are one of the best parts of the season. Join us at the Medgar Evers Library for a day of staff's must watch Christmas movies ranging from holiday classics and animated flicks to less conventional festive favorites. For added fun, wear your ugly sweater and receive a prize! All Ages

Tweens and Teens are invited to enjoy fun holiday tunes and play wii games with friends, family and library staff! So, come show off those moves and enjoy some pizza with us! If time permits, there will also be Christmas crafting for holiday gift-giving. Come join us! Ages 12-18 only.

December 22, 2018 | Events for All Ages

When an evil spirit called Pitch becomes bent upon taking over the world by inspiring fear in the hearts of kids everywhere, a group of our greatest heroes -- Santa, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman and Jack Frost -- band together for the first time, determined to stand in Pitch's way. More than a collection of storybook subjects, "The Guardians" are also a band of superheroes, who possess their own special powers. Free popcorn and lemonade will be served.

This program will highlight the conventions of poetry and allow teens to freely express themselves in a no judgement zone. Her work speaks to young people very well, especially in the area of body image and feeling excluded as a teenager.

Will Sawyer is a former FBI agent and U.S. war veteran who now assesses security for skyscrapers. While he's on assignment in China, the world's tallest and safest building catches on fire -- and Will gets framed for it. Now a wanted man and on the run, he must find those responsible, clear his name and somehow rescue his family members when they become trapped inside the inferno.
