About Medgar Evers Library

The Medgar Evers Library, which was named for the Civil Rights activist, Medgar Evers, is located in Northwest Jackson. The library celebrates the Medgar Evers Homecoming each June, and a historic statue of Evers is located on library grounds. The library also hosts the Annual Juneteenth Celebration.
We have Summer Reading Programs, The Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest, The Annual Health Fair, Storytime Wednesdays and Fantastic Friday Storytimes at 10:00 AM, Teen Programs and Showtime Movie Matinees every Saturday at 11 AM. September 18, 2018 | Events for Teens

This rigorous STEM education program, as defined by business leaders and industry experts, aligns the skills and knowledge needed to bridge the gap between secondary education and college/career success. Students develop critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving skills while utilizing real-world applications. In addition, teens are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Teens meet every Tuesday at 5:30 PM at the Medgar Evers Library. Join today!

September 22, 2018 | Movie Events

Come join us for this BLOCKBUSTER movie on the big screen! A small team of mercenaries arrives on the abandoned Isla Nublar to collect DNA from the remains of the Indominus rex at the bottom of the park's lagoon. After successfully collecting a bone fragment, the team's survivors barely escape the island following attacks by the Mosasaurus and Tyrannosaurus rex!
So, come and enjoy watching a fun movie on the big screen with us! Not to mention the delicious popcorn! 11:00 AM

September 28, 2018 | Events for Toddlers

This program is geared for babies, toddlers, and their caregivers. There will be body rhymes, board books, fingerplays, songs, and lots more! Fun starts at 10:00 AM! Come join us!

September 29, 2018 | Events for Teens

Is the end of summer bumming you out? Have you exhausted all your summer activities? Come and play board games at the library! This teen board game program will be from 2:00 to 3:30 PM at the Medgar Evers Library. The library will provide a selection of board games and participants may also bring their own games to play. Friendly competition is encouraged and players of all skill levels are invited to participate. Teens, ages 13 to 18, only!
