About Medgar Evers Library

The Medgar Evers Library, which was named for the Civil Rights activist, Medgar Evers, is located in Northwest Jackson. The library celebrates the Medgar Evers Homecoming each June, and a historic statue of Evers is located on library grounds. The library also hosts the Annual Juneteenth Celebration.
We have Summer Reading Programs, The Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest, The Annual Health Fair, Storytime Wednesdays and Fantastic Friday Storytimes at 10:00 AM, Teen Programs and Showtime Movie Matinees every Saturday at 11 AM. This program is all about encouraging and inspiring teens to become the next generation of developers, animators, film makers, photographers, designers and engineers. In addition to developing teen's interests and passions for the latest in new technology, this program fosters personal growth, confidence, and independence, while preparing students for life beyond high school and college. Randy Lynn joins the Spark-O-Matic class for a teaching and demonstration of the Raspberry Pi Mini Computer. Raspberry Pi is a dynamic microcontroller that is capable of just about anything a computer is. It runs with the Python programming language, and is a great way to learn about hardware and coding. Come join us!

September 22, 2017 | Events for All Ages

Library Card Sign up Month is a time to remind parents and children that a library card is the most important school supply of all. This special storytime will include community teachers, parents and of course, the library staff. Come join us for a fun hour of music, story readings, games, crafts and snacks. All ages welcome.

Before she was a superhero, she was princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. She was raised on a sheltered island paradise and meets an American pilot who tells her about the massive conflict that's raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, she leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny. September 28, 2017 | Events for Adults

Join us for the Guess Who Game for adults. Everyone who attends will bring a photo of themselves and will write their name on the back of a post-it note. The note will have a number on the front and will be attached to a bulletin board. Everyone in the group gets a pen and paper with a list of all the numbers. After each number, they will write the name of which person they think the child was. Whoever gets the most right wins a prize. (Name tags can also be worn). Come join us! Adults and senior adults only.

Come join us for Bingo at the Medgar Evers Public Library!
The Medgar Evers Library will host Senior BINGO on the fourth Friday of every month, at 11:00 AM in the meeting and activity room. Adults and Senior Adults are invited and prizes will be awarded. Come join the fun. It's free!

Calling all Tweens and Teens! Come Get Your Game On! Playing games is a great way to relax, have fun, and get to meet new people. Join us and enjoy some friendly competition with your peers at the Medgar Evers Branch. We'll be playing the Wii, the Xbox 360 and Board games. Have a game that you love? Bring it and grab a spot!

This fun animated film is about a large polar bear that doesn't know how to hunt, but he does possess the unique ability to talk to humans. When he realizes his beloved home is in jeopardy, he is accompanied by three mischievous lemmings, and they stow away on a ship to New York. Once there, he meets a surprising ally who helps him hatch a scheme to sabotage the shady developer's plans. Free popcorn and lemonade will be provided. Come join us! 11:00 AM
